A view of Verona 'old town' from what used to be an Austrian garrison - ideal for shelling the locals if they were getting out of hand. If you look closely, when walking around, you can still see the holes left in buildings from cannon balls.
We visited Juliet's house below;
The locks are left in Juliet's garden by couples looking for a long lasting relationship - it's a long standing tradition and you write your names on the padlock and throw away the key - the souvenir shop next door does a good job of keeping the tradition going!
As you enter the courtyard there are two 'white' walls where graffiti, expressing terms of endearment (such as "come on you Reds") are encouraged.
The actual balcony .
Mrs P's two Romeos.
On to the opera - tonight it's Romeo and Juliet (there's a coincidence for you - strange or what ;-))
The opera started at 21:00 and the temperature was still around 35 degrees C - felt like 40+.
It takes place in what was a Roman amphitheatre - now a very nice business!
Bring on the lions and Christians!
The grand finale - TP reckoned it took Juliet far too long to die. She kept singing for the best part of an hour after stabbing herself through the heart. The opera ran for over three hours - including breaks.
